ABOUT EVENT
Women account for 48% of India’s population, but have not been equal beneficiaries of the country’s economic growth. India slipped to the 112th spot (from its 108th position in 2018) in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index 2020 which covered 153 economies. Only one-quarter of women compared with 82% of men, engage actively in the labour market - one of the lowest participation rates in the world. Women account for 14% of leadership roles and 30% of professional and technical workers. Female political representation remains a concern too: 14.4% of the parliament and 23% of the cabinet.
Statistics reflect that women account for 49.58% of the global world population and in India, women make up 48%. These numbers reflect that the new world economic order requires women to lead from the front and be equal beneficiaries of the country’s economic growth.
However, the practical scenario is very different. India has slipped to the 128th spot in 2021 (from its 112th position in 2020) in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index covering 156 economies. The pandemic has also served to exacerbate the situation, where female labour participation rate in India fell to 16.1% during July-September 2020, the lowest among major economies reflecting the impact of a widening job crisis. In India alone, over 70 lakh Indian women have dropped out of work around late 2020 – early 2021.
This bleak scenario only calls out the need of the hour- the return of women to the working population and the recognition, that if women increased their participation, the annual GDP of India can be increased 60% above its projected figure by 2025.
Given this scenario, the Southern Region of CII-IWN as part of their initiative on Leadership development present to you their Annual Leadership Conclave, ‘Say Yes’. This year, the chosen theme, given the present scenario of a hybrid workforce and the fact that women have successfully battled all odds of balancing their life at home and at work, we present ‘Say Yes -Be Yourself’.
‘Say Yes - Be Yourself’ is an ode to all of us, for just being us, to stay on our chosen paths to understand it takes each one to make one and to understand that leadership is about what we bring to the fore, our ethos and beliefs and as each drop makes the ocean, so many differences come together to create a universe of similarity.
This abstract theme of oneself and oneness breaks into various sub-themes exploring themes of Being a Leader, Being an Entrepreneur, being a Social Citizen, Being a Corporate Citizen, all avenues explored while being true to oneself, being you.
We invite you to explore and present the best of you
