Industry 4.0 & Digitisation is revolutionizing the Future of Work and accelerating Industrial productivity. However, changing demographics are forcing nations to rely on a globally sourced skilled workforce.
With Europe, Japan, South Korea, and other countries experiencing rapidly aging populations, India with its largest youth population stands in an advantageous position to become the talent powerhouse to the world.
To leverage this, the Indian Government has launched a number of initiatives. These include Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreements (MMTAs) with the UK, France, Portugal, and eMigrate platform, and created a network of 31 Pre-Departure Orientation Training centers across India.
There is a need to augment these efforts at the diplomatic and institutional levels. This will include re-inventing skilling ecosystems equipped with cross-cultural, language, and technical training systems. The emphasis must be on creating a multi-skilled, globally agile, and deployment-ready workforce, with flexible and fungible skills. Moreover, it is equally vital to set up a migratory support system and the leverage Indian diaspora, facilitating inward and outward-moving talent.
With a focus on the Future of Work & International mobility of the skilled workforce of Indian skilled workforce, CII is organizing its 10th Global Skills Summit 2022 on 13 December in New Delhi.
Its theme of ‘Forging agile & flexible workforces: bolstering global mobility of skilled talent’ draws on this need to identify new-age skill sets, delve into challenges, recognize global best practices & policy interventions along with adopting replicable models, both in terms of supply and demand systems, incorporating ethical rules, that will aid international mobility of skilled talent.
The Summit will bring together forces from industry, academia & policymakers, and witness the participation of speakers from Central and State Governments, Ministers and delegations from various Countries, senior industry leaders, International and national domain experts, think tanks, academicians, and multilateral agencies.
Skilled youth holds the key to India’s growth trajectory. Nurturing an industry-trained workforce to serve global and local talent needs is a joint responsibility and the 10th CII Global Summit on Skill Development is a foundational step in that direction.
