ABOUT EVENT

Confederation of Indian Industry with the support of the  Embassies of India and Myanmar and also its MOU Partners will be organising the “India Myanmar Business Meet” from 0930- 1315 hrs  on 20 September 2022, on CII HIVE.  The objective of this meet is to enhance bilateral trade and investment between India & Myanmar and explore business opportunities available for both sides.

India has been a major Trading Partner with Myanmar for ages. The bilateral trade stands at US$1.894 billion in 2021-22 which includes India’s export of over US$892 million and import from Myanmar of around US$1002 million. The trade between the two countries has increased from previous financial years. The growth is, however, not commensurate with the potential.

Myanmar’s economy is projected to grow 3 percent in the fiscal year ending in September 2022, following an 18% contraction last year.  While the overall economy has faced headwinds, some sectors have stabilized or recovered over the past twelve months, driving the modest growth expected for this year. Some firms have reported operating at a higher proportion of their capacity in 2022 than was the case in 2021, particularly in the manufacturing sector, and manufactured exports are recovering. Construction activity has also picked up as work on several projects has resumed after a long pause last year, and the pipeline of issued permits has grown. A rise in mobility at workplaces, retail outlets, and transport hubs has supported overall activity.

This Business Meet will have participants from Government, Business leaders, Apex Business Chambers, Think tanks, Research Organizations, etc. The discussions at the Meet would be around the Pharma, Agro & Renewable Energy Sectors followed by B2B meeting.

H E Mr Vinay Kumar, Ambassador of India to Myanmar and H E Mr Moe Kyaw Aung, Ambassador, Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar have kindly agreed to join  and deliver the Special Address at the Inaugural Session.
